In 2021, my Dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s — the same day I became a single mum. Having already learned to manage my own autoimmune condition, Ménière’s, through my training in Functional Medicine and Nutrition, my fight for health suddenly took on an even deeper purpose: I needed to do everything I could to build a stronger brain for my future, for me, for my kids and for my Dad.

Like Meniere’s the majority of information out there about this condition is incredibly negative. But yet Depending on which study you read between 60-99% of Alzheimer’s cases are preventable. That is because 99% of cases are driven by lifestyle factors well within our control. Alzheimer’s is multi-factorial, meaning multiple lifestyle factors work together to affect many different functions in the body, which eventually affect the structure of the brain and its ability to function.

Big pharma cannot profit from lifestyle changes, so this information goes largely unshared. Equally because this condition has many highly personal causes, a pill will never be the correct tool for the job. But lifestyle changes are the sweet spot. Just like with my Meniere’s, I felt the need to share this information with others. I am not a peddler of doom and gloom, but of hope. I will not sit around waiting for this death sentence.
